HMCS Ville de Quebec departed Halifax July 18th, the same day the ship she is supposedly relieving, arrives in St John’s, for Operation REASSURANCE. This mission also marks the first operational deployment of a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter, which at last report will not be combat ready until 2023, year 48 of the Sea King replacement program.

The ship will join Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), one of NATO’s maritime immediate reaction forces, on its way to the Mediterranean Sea as part of Canada’s support to NATO assurance and deterrence measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

HMCS St. John’s should return to Halifax early next week.
