Interim Ombudman for the Canadian Armed Forces

September 21, 2018 – Mr. Gregory Lick (pictured above with a CD with no explaination) was announced as the interim Ombudsman for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces and thanked Mr. Gary Walbourne for his service to the Defence community as Ombudsman since 2014.

With over 30 years in the Canadian Coast Guard, Mr. Lick has served onboard icebreakers and search and rescue vessels, and has worked on the development of the shipbuilding procurement and fleet renewal strategies. He will serve as the interim Ombudsman effective November 1, 2018, for a term of up to eight months or until a new Ombudsman is appointed.

A selection process is underway to select a new Ombudsman for a term of five years. The Ombudsman investigates complaints and serves as a neutral third party on matters related to the Department and the Canadian Armed Forces and the welfare of its members and employees. Acting independently of the chain of command and managers, the Ombudsman reports directly to the Minister of National Defence.
