August 22, 2019 – Vice-Admiral Haydn Edmundson assumed command of Military Personnel Command from Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre during a ceremony held today at National Defence Headquarters (Carling) in Ottawa. General Jonathan H. Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff, presided over the ceremony.
The Commander of Military Personnel Command oversees approximately 14,000 military and civilian personnel who are responsible for the overall personnel management of the Canadian Armed Forces. Personnel management covers a wide spectrum, including recruitment, training and education, benefits, health services, honours and history, and corporate and personnel support.
Vice-Admiral Haydn Edmundson has extensive experience within Military Personnel Command as Director Senior Appointments, Director General Military Careers, Director General Military Personnel Support Services and Chief of Staff to the Commander, and most recently as Deputy Commander.
Following a brief command of Military Personnel Command, Lieutenant-General Eyre now serves as the Commander of the Canadian Army. Previously, he served as Deputy Commander of United Nations Command Korea since 2018 and as Deputy Commander of Military Personnel Command from 2016-2018.
