2018 Arctic Season Underway

The Canadian Coast Guard’s annual Arctic operational season is underway and includes a maiden voyage to the Arctic by the CCGS Samuel Risley. The season will run into late November, providing extended vessel presence in the Arctic. Launch of the First Large Vessel Designed and Built Under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy

Seaspan Shipyards today celebrated the launch of the first large vessel to be designed and built under the Government of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) – CCGS Sir John Franklin, the first of three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV) December 8th. In 2011, the Government of Canada competitively selected Seaspan to be its Non-Combat Shipbuilder as part of the NSS program.
