MDA Selected for Design Phase of Canadian Surface Combatant Program

February 8, 2019 – MDA, a Maxar Technologies company, today announced that Canada’s Combat Ship Team was selected by Irving Shipbuilding for the design contract for Canada’s Surface Combatant (CSC) ships. Irving Shipbuilding is the Canadian Surface Combatant Prime Contractor and will build all 15 ships at Halifax Shipyard. Federal Government Prepares to Assess Lever of Risks of Derelict Vessels

January 14, 2019 – Public Services and Procurement Canada has awarded a contract to London Offshore Consultants, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, for the development of a risk assessment methodology related to hundreds of vessels of concern (abandoned, wrecked or dilapidated vessels) in Canadian waters or on Crown land. The risk assessment methodology, expected to be delivered by this summer, will help the Canadian Coast Guard assess the level of risk these vessels pose to the environment, the economy and public safety.

Nova Scotia Government Making Repairs to CSS Acadia

December 6, 2018 – On the 101st anniversary of the Halifax explosion, government is making repairs to the only vessel still afloat to have survived the event, the historic CSS Acadia. The province will also continue repair work to the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry. The CSS Acadia is a national historic site that is permanently moored at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax. Major Contract for Protecteur Class Announced

October 2, 2018 – Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) has awarded Hawboldt Industries (Hawboldt) of Chester, Nova Scotia, two contracts for a total value of $8M for work on Canada’s new Protecteur Class supply ships. This is one of several expected to be announced for Canadian suppliers supporting Seaspan’s work on naval supply ships under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).
