The crew of the Russian Navy’s first icebreaker-class patrol ship, the Ivan Papanin, which is being built at the Admiralty Shipyards USC, has completed the process of boarding the ship. This was reported by the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the RF Ministry of Defense. The sailors accepted the equipment from the factory workers and began to develop it. The launch of factory sea trials will take place in the summer.

On the patrol ship, all conditions for life and service have been created for the personnel. All military personnel are accommodated in cabins. For sailors and foremen there are 4-bed rooms, officers and midshipmen live in 2-bed rooms, command personnel live in single cabins. Each of the cabins is equipped with a sanitary block, which includes a shower, toilet and washbasin. The ship has a separate recreation area and a gym where you can do not only gymnastic exercises, but also sports games, even basketball.

The galley with new kitchen equipment is already actively working, providing 4 meals a day for the entire crew. Meals for officers take place in the wardroom, and for the rest of the personnel in the team canteen, equipped with all modern requirements.

During the construction of the patrol ship, the prospects for its use in high latitudes were taken into account, so even the mooring decks are maximally protected from the influence of the external environment.

The construction process itself took place under conditions of sanctions pressure with maximum import substitution.

The ship’s crew, led by the commander, Captain 2nd Rank Kirill Tkachenko, completed a basic training course at the joint training center of the Navy in St. Petersburg. It is fully ready to test Russia’s first patrol icebreaker.

The ice-class patrol ship “Ivan Papanin” is the lead ship of Project 23550, which is designed to protect areas of maritime economic activity and shipping of the Russian Federation in the Arctic sea zone. It has a large displacement and a durable hull, designed to overcome ice fields with an ice thickness of more than one and a half meters. Armed with a 76-mm automatic artillery mount, equipped with a helipad and hangars, incl. for unmanned aerial vehicles.
