Former HMCS Qu’Appelle Navigator Retires from Coast Guard

This week we mark the end of a remarkable career and salute excellence in leadership as we say farewell and happy retirement to Assistant Commissioner Roger Girouard.

After a 34 year distinguished career with the Canadian Armed Forces, culminating in Commander, Maritime Forces Pacific, Roger joined our Western Region as Assistant Commissioner in May 2013. Since that time, we cannot overstate Roger’s influence and leadership on our personnel in the region, and on our organization as a whole. He will be the first to say that more work needs to be done – and give credit to his team – but he has:

1. Led efforts on reconciliation
2. Built stronger partnerships with communities and responders all over the coast
3. Overseen the implementation of the Incident Command System
4. Strengthened our ability to respond to marine pollution and Search and Rescue, and
5. Worked to increase diversity within our organization.

On behalf of everyone who has been fortunate to work with you, and during your 41-year long career serving Canadians, thank you, Bravo Zulu, and fair winds and following seas Roger Girouard!
