Next stop for the frigate “Baden-Württemberg” and the task force supply ship “Frankfurt am Main” during the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024: From June 17 to 26, the two German warships sailed from San Diego to Honolulu. They were not alone on the route. Seven other naval ships had joined them for a so-called Group Sail.
The ten-day transit offered an opportunity to train together before the start of the major Exercise RIMPAC. The seven ships that accompanied the “Baden-Württemberg” and the “Frankfurt am Main” on their crossing came from the USA, Canada, Mexico and Peru. The ship types ranged from destroyers to supply ships to tank landing ships.
Together they not only carried out sea supply maneuvers and practiced flight operations, but also simulated joint defense against underwater, surface and air targets and undertook shooting exercises. In all of this they also learned how to drive and quickly relocate in such a large formation of different ships – important for mutual protection in an emergency.
