Naval Museum of Halifax Mourns Death of Artist in Residence

It is with great sadness that the Naval Museum of Halifax mourns the passing of Patricia Romana Burstall (Brewer). Pat had been the Museum’s Artist in Residence from 1991 onward, producing some of the most iconic paintings of RCN ships and seascapes.

Born and raised in Halifax, Pat was a prominent artist within the community, she had been recognized as a member of the Canadian Society of Marines artists. One of Pat’s most notable works called “Lost in Action” is a series of water colour (SIC) and oil paintings depicting the 24 warships the RCN lost during WWII (SIC).

Originally unveiled in 1987, Pat’s series is still currently on display at #CFBHalifax Juno Tower outside of the Chiefs and Petty Officers’ mess. Pat passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 14th, 2021. Pat will be greatly missed by the Museum, fellow artists, and the CAF community.
